How to make result cards for your school

What a result card must include, grade scales, combining term results, printing a whole class at once, and telling parents the right way.

A result card is a small document with a big failure mode: one transcription slip between the marks register and the card, and a family loses trust in every number on it. Making result cards well is therefore mostly about where the marks live, and only then about layout. Here is the whole pipeline, from marks entry to the card in a parent's hand.

What goes on the card?

BlockContentsWhy it matters
IdentityStudent, guardian, class and section, roll number, session, examThe block disputes turn on; it must match the register.
Per subjectMarks obtained, total marks, grade; absent shown as absentAn absent flag is not a zero, and the card should say so.
OverallAggregate, percentage, grade, position if used, remarksThe line parents read first; compute it, never hand-total it.
Term contextAttendance, next term's start date, signaturesSaves the office a hundred identical questions.

How does the pipeline run without transcription errors?

  • Marks are entered once, by the subject teacher, against the exam, with absences flagged rather than zeroed.
  • The grade scale is set centrally so 79 means the same grade in every section, and changing the scale re-grades consistently.
  • Combined results are computed, weighted across the term's exams by the published split.
  • Publishing locks the result. In EDUTIG, publishing a class's result freezes it: late corrections become deliberate, visible decisions rather than quiet edits, which is exactly what a parent-facing document needs.
  • The card is a template. The school designs it once, with its own logo and remarks style, and the whole class prints as a batch.

How do results reach parents?

Publish to the portal first, alert second: the parent gets a message that the report card is ready, and opens the card behind their own login, where their child's result stays theirs. Schools that paste result lists into class WhatsApp groups regret it by evening. The exams module behind all of this, from marks entry to the printable card, is on the exams and report cards feature page, and the messaging side, including what a WhatsApp alert needs, is in our WhatsApp for schools guide.
