How to increase school admissions in Pakistan
Where new families actually come from, the admissions funnel most schools leak, and the follow-up habits that fill seats by March.
Schools grow on two numbers: how many families inquire, and how many of those inquiries become admissions. Most advice obsesses over the first number. The second is where Pakistani schools actually leak, because inquiries live on sticky notes and nobody calls back. This guide covers both, in the order that pays: fix the funnel, then fill it.
Why do schools lose admissions they almost had?
Walk the path a parent walks. They hear about the school, they visit or phone, someone answers their questions, and then? In most schools, nothing: there is no record the inquiry ever happened, so nothing follows it. The family that was 70 percent convinced admits wherever spoke to them last. The fix costs nothing but discipline: every inquiry recorded the moment it happens, with the family's questions, who handled it, and a date for the next follow-up, and one person who opens that list every morning. In EDUTIG, inquiries are numbered, follow-ups are logged against them, and the next follow-up date is shown so nothing is forgotten; the structure is on the admissions and student records feature page.
What fills the top of the funnel?
| Source | What makes it work | What kills it |
|---|---|---|
| Referrals from current parents | An experience worth retelling: results published on time, fees with receipts, teachers who respond. | Asking for referrals while parents feel ignored. |
| Word of mouth in the neighbourhood | Results season and board outcomes, made visible honestly. | Claims the neighbourhood can see are inflated. |
| Walk-ins and signage | A front office that records and follows up the same day. | “Someone will call you” and nobody does. |
| Facebook and WhatsApp presence | Real photos, real dates, admission windows announced early. | A page last updated two sessions ago. |
| Alumni and siblings | Knowing which families have a younger child at home. | Not knowing, because records never linked siblings. |
How does the campaign calendar look?
- Three months out: fix the follow-up log and train whoever answers the phone. Announce the admission window to current parents first; they are your best channel.
- Two months out: open applications, online if you can, so a form started at home gets finished. Track inquiry sources from day one, so next year's budget follows the channels that worked.
- One month out: follow-ups daily, not weekly. The families deciding now are talking to two other schools this week.
- After the window: count it honestly: inquiries, visits, applications, admissions, per source. The school that knows its own numbers improves them; the one that does not repeats the same spring every year.
One warning about growth itself: new admissions strain the office before they strain the classrooms. If this coming season is the one where the registers finally break, read moving your school from registers to software before the rush, not during it.
